How To Move On When Paralysed By Fear

I wish I could tell you that since I have started this journey with A Buried Seed that I have not experienced feelings of emptiness and being numb. Yet ever since I launched my blog, I felt like I took a step forward and then 10 steps back, facing challenges after challenges.

When things get tough, you can find yourself questioning your decision and your identity. Conversations with yourself transition from “I need to do this” to ” This was a mistake, maybe I moved too quickly”

Somehow, when I faced test and trials, I saw them as a stop sign. But stop signs were never intended to halt our journey but act merely as a caution to check the way before proceeding.

What I did by stopping was to give way to self-doubt, anxiety, and fear, which can halt the journey altogether.

During these challenging situations in my life, I became fearful of the work I began in this blog. Fearful, whatever I wrote will not be good enough. Fearful that I am too weak and not mentally strong enough to push myself, be confident and therefore unqualified to encourage others. It got to the point where I began dismissing my thoughts and ideas and even stopped posting.

When you know your identity, the enemy may come, but your fears will not take hold because you know who you are Christ.

I struggled so much because I didn’t know my identity. I realised my need for external validation meant the identity I stood by was not being defined by Christ but by the people I was giving authority over me. I had placed the word of men above the word of God.

So, how have I begun to overcome my fear.

  • Pray. Sounds cliche to some, but there is power in praying. You must also check your posture when praying – are you coming to God humbly? Are you praying and believing He will answer your prayers?
  • Study and meditate on the Word of God. The Word of God gives clear directions in all areas of life. You can not know God without knowing His Word.
  • Ask for wisdom. I encourage you to learn about wisdom and seek it always.
  • Be held accountable. Have you heard the saying, 2 hands are better than one? Well, if you want to walk in your purpose but struggle with discipline, get an accountability partner – someone who will keep you in check.

And do my prayer for you is:

I pray that you will come to know and walk in your identity in Christ.

I pray that the word of God be rooted in your hearts so that when the enemy comes to fight or challenge you, you won’t run away or give in but fight with the Word, holding fast to the promises of God.

I pray that you never cease in prayer. Nothing is too big or small for God. He wants to have a relationship with you.
